The Detroit Lions organization unveiled a major new youth football initiative on Wednesday, committing $8 million over five years to establish free football clinics and leagues across underserved communities in Metro Detroit.

The program, called Lions Pride Youth Football, will launch in 15 locations this summer and aims to serve over 5,000 young athletes ages 8-16 in its first year. Each site will receive new equipment, certified coaching staff, and academic support services for participants.

Head coach Dan Campbell made a personal appearance at the announcement, emphasizing that the program focuses on character development and teamwork as much as athletic skill. Several current Lions players have already volunteered as mentors for the inaugural season.
