After years of construction and planning, the city of Flint officially celebrated the completion of its $120 million water infrastructure overhaul on Monday. The project, which replaced every lead service line in the city, marks a major milestone in Flint’s recovery from the water crisis that began in 2014.
City officials and community leaders gathered at Flint City Hall for a ceremony that included water quality demonstrations and testimonials from residents. Independent testing confirms that Flint’s water now exceeds federal safety standards across all measured parameters.
The infrastructure project also included modernizing the city’s water treatment plant and installing a real-time water quality monitoring system that provides continuous data to both operators and the public through a new mobile app.
