It was a rough week for the State of Michigan when it came to football. All three major teams lost on Saturday and Sunday. It has been nearly a year since all three teams lost in the same weekend; it was October 11-12th, 2025. The Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines have bright spots, while the Michigan State Spartans don’t.

The Detroit Lions defense officially collapsed on Sunday Night Football. The Carolina Panthers’ passing attack ravaged the Lions’ secondary. The Lions have by far the worst defensive back room in the NFL, according to PFF analysis. Brian Branch should return after next week’s bye, but he can’t solve all of their issues. The bright side is the Lions have scored 29 or more points every week this season.

Michigan, a former Big Ten powerhouse, is now 3-2 and firmly out of the college football playoff picture. The big question is, when does Michigan pull the plug on the Bryce Underwood experiment? While their offense is lacking, the Wolverines have an elite defense, but it has not proven to be enough to win important games.

You can chalk this season up as a loss for Michigan State. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. They have several key playmakers who are either currently injured or out of the season. It would take a miracle for the Spartans to make a bowl game in Pat Fitzgerald’s first year.

The Detroit Lions will travel to play the Arizona Cardinals as 4.5-point favorites on Sunday. Michigan State will host 2-3 Illinois as 2.5-point underdogs. This game will be former MSU QB Katin Houser’s first game against his former team as an Illini. The Michigan Wolverines are on bye for this upcoming weekend.
