It was a mixed bag this weekend as both the Wolverines and Spartans imploded, and the Lions had their best defensive performance of the year. But a Detroit Lions win over the Packers is always something to celebrate.
Brian Branch made his long-awaited return to the Detroit Lions secondary and he did not disappoint. In his first game back he was able to intercept Jordan Love and played excellent in coverage. The Lions defense for once covered for this week’s sloppy, off-rhythm offense. If the defense continues to play this way, the sky is the limit.
The season is nearly over for the Spartans. One more loss will knock them out of bowl contention and they lack the man-power to go on an end-of-season run. Their third string quarterback Kayd Coffman got the start and was in over his head vs UCLA. This game lacked any bright spots for the Spartans.
The Michigan Wolverines elite defense was yet again let down by the offense. The Wolverines started Tommy Carr over Bryce Underwood looking for a spark and failed to score a touchdown. It’s commendable they were able to drag #6 Indiana to overtime, but their offense is absolutely horrendous.
Despite the Minnesota Vikings’ current undefeated record, the Lions open as 3 point favorites. This will be the Lions second-home divisional game in two weeks. Michigan gets what should be an easy matchup next week against 2-5 Rutgers. The Michigan State Spartans are off next week as they prepare to play Michigan on November 7th.
