Jeremy Moss Wins Oakland County’s Open Congressional Seat

Democratic state Sen. Jeremy Moss won Michigan’s 11th Congressional District seat, defeating Republican Troy Mayor Ethan Baker. The Associated Press called the race on Tuesday evening.

Moss campaigned on lowering household and health care costs, protecting reproductive rights and strengthening federal civil rights protections. In the Michigan Senate, he sponsored legislation expanding the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to explicitly protect sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. Baker emphasized affordability, expanding manufacturing and skilled-trade jobs, improving mental health care access and imposing a moratorium on data centers.

The Cook Political Report rated the Oakland County district Solid Democratic heading into the election. The seat opened when Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens opted to run for the U.S. Senate rather than seek reelection. Moss’s victory keeps the seat in Democratic hands and sends him to Washington for his first two-year term in Congress.
