Moolenaar Wins Another Term In West And Central Michigan

Republican Rep. John Moolenaar won reelection in Michigan’s 2nd Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Ben Ambrose. The Associated Press called the race on Tuesday evening.

Moolenaar campaigned on lowering taxes, strengthening border security, reducing federal spending and countering the Chinese Communist Party. During his latest term, he chaired the House Select Committee on China and supported legislation extending the 2017 individual tax cuts and expanding the child tax credit. Ambrose, a Marine Corps veteran, emphasized lowering household costs, strengthening rural health care and cutting taxes for middle-class families.

The Cook Political Report rated the district Solid Republican heading into the election, reflecting its substantial GOP advantage. The largely rural district covers portions of west and central Michigan. Moolenaar’s victory secures his seventh consecutive two-year term in the House, where he has served since 2015, and keeps the seat in Republican hands.
