A game that didn’t spark interest among college football pundits beforehand captured the sports world’s attention on Saturday. University of Michigan Quarterback Bryce Underwood completed a 47-yard Hail Mary to JJ Buchanan to stun Western Michigan at the buzzer. Controversy clouds the pass, as the clock appeared to have expired before the play. Referees added one second to the clock, which allowed Michigan to make the improbable comeback.

Western Michigan Head Coach Lance Taylor said this about the play: “I thought our guys did an excellent job. I know when I looked up at the clock, it was past zero before we touched it. I knew that they would review it. It was the last play of the game, and because we defended it so well, wasn’t worried or concerned about our guys going out and defending it the second time.”

Michigan Head Coach Kyle Whittingham said in a press conference, “I ‘m pretty sure there was one second left.” However, a clip circulating on X seems to contradict this. In an interaction with both head coaches, Whittingham appears to say, “there wasn’t time.”

The Big Ten, Michigan’s confrence has taken their side in the issue. They said in a press release, ““Following video review, it was determined Western Michigan’s #18 started his jump from an established out-of-bounds position (left foot) and made contact with the ball with one second remaining on the clock.”

Following this game, Michigan is staying home and taking on a tough opponent in the #11 Oklahoma Sooners. For the Broncos, they will host Boise State, a premier group of five program in what will be a tough outing. Both teams project as betting underdogs in their prospective matchups.
