On Thursday, Jocelyn Benson and John James completed their second and final debate for Michigan Governor.

Jocelyn Benson spent much of her time attacking Donald Trump and, by proxy, John James. “He’s done everything Donald Trump asks. He repeats every lie Donald Trump tells. Every bad economic policy Donald Trump promotes, he promotes.”

James accused her of being more interested in running against Trump than him, “She wants to run against Donald Trump, and she hates him so much she’s willing to make you pay for it. We need to focus on lowering energy costs and supporting the repeal of the gas tax.”

John James emphasized his four-year term as Governor will be considered a success if young people alter trends and stay in Michigan. “Under Jocelyn Benson and Democrats who have controlled Lansing for the past eight years, Michigan’s number one exporter has been our young people.”

A major highlight of the debate was when both candidates were asked if they agreed on any policy, neither candidate was willing to give an answer. It appears as we head into the final two weeks that neither candidate will concede positive ground to the other.

Recent polling shows Jocelyn Benson as the favorite as we head into the final two weeks of the cycle. According to YouGov, Jocelyn Benson has a 3% lead in October. Additionally, Mitchell Research & Communication polling has Benson ahead of James by 7%. John James will have work in front of him to close the gap in the final two weeks.
