As Republicans in the House and Senate face an increasingly difficult path to retain their majorities, a new study revealed that the SAVE America Act could be the answer to their woes.

The study, conducted by McLaughlin and Associates, found widespread support for the bill and that it could move swing voters in states with tightly contested Senate elections such as Georgia, Maine, and North Carolina.

In the survey, 64 percent of voters expressed support for voter ID, while slightly less people expressed support for the entirety of the SAVE America Act, but it still received support from 52.4 percent of voters, 7.6 percent more than opposed it.

In addition to the poll showing support for the bill, it could help drive turnout for Republican voters, as a whopping 73 percent of people surveyed said they’d be more likely to show up to vote if it was passed.

After a push from the bills sponsors such as Senator Mike Lee, R-Ut. it garnered support from swing state Republicans, such as Senator Susan Collins, R-Me. who is facing a close reelection campaign.

“I support the version of the SAVE America Act that recently passed the House,” Collins said in a statement. “The law is clear that in this country only American citizens are eligible to vote in federal elections.”

“In addition, having people provide an ID at the polls, just as they have to do before boarding an airplane, checking into a hotel, or buying an alcoholic beverage, is a simple reform that will improve the security of our federal elections and will help give people more confidence in the results,” she continued.

Grassroots conservative groups in her state have backed her decision to support the SAVE America Act, including Election Integrity Network President Sharon Bemis.

“I thank Sen. Collins for her courage and clarity. Mainers appreciate leaders who put country and common sense first. With her continued support, we are one step closer to an election system that every citizen can believe in — one ballot, one lawful vote and one more reason to be proud to call Maine home”, Bemis said in an op-ed.

The SAVE America Act has passed the House and received support from a majority of Senators, but now faces a procedural hurdle known as the “zombie filibuster’, which Republicans would have to bypass with a simple majority vote. Some Senators such as Collins have not committed to ending the filibuster to pass the SAVE America Act.
