Correspondents Dinner Suspect Charged with Attempting to Assassinate the President

The man who attempted to storm the White House Correspondents Dinner while armed, causing the event to end prematurely has been charged with attempting to assassinate the President.

If convicted, Cole Allen, aged 31, could face life in prison in addition to time he would serve for other charges, including transportation of a firearm with intent to commit a felony and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.

Allen was apprehended on Saturday night while attempting to rush past Secret Service agents at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington DC, where the White House Correspondents Dinner was being held.

This year marked the first time that the President attended the dinner after skipping it during his first term. He was expected to be the guest of honor and was sitting at the head table before being escorted away by Secret Service.

On Sunday, Allen’s manifesto was released where he accused Trump of being a “pedophile, rapist” and traitor.

“I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,” Allen wrote, apparently referring to the president.

In addition to targeting members of the Trump administration, Allen admitted that he was willing to kill everyone in attendance at the event “if it were absolutely necessary”.

“I would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary (on the basis that most people *chose* to attend a speech by a pedophile, rapist, and traitor, and are thus complicit) but I really hope it doesn’t come to that.”

Saturday night’s incident marks at least the third time that someone has made a credible attempt on President Trump’s life in the last two years, including an infamous shooter in Butler, Pennsylvania who grazed the President’s ear with a bullet and took the life of an innocent spectator at a Trump rally.
