The first-round series between the Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic has quickly evolved into a physical, momentum-driven battle, with Orlando taking a 2–1 lead after a pivotal Game 3 win.

Game 3 was the clearest illustration yet of how thin the margin is between these teams. Orlando secured a 113–105 victory behind standout performances from Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane, who each scored 25 points. Banchero nearly recorded a triple-double, adding 12 rebounds and nine assists, while Bane bounced back from a quiet start to the series by hitting seven three-pointers. Franz Wagner also delivered in key late moments, helping Orlando close on a decisive 9–0 run after Detroit briefly took the lead late in the fourth quarter.

For Detroit, Cade Cunningham continued to produce offensively with 27 points, but his nine turnovers — including a critical late miscue — underscored a recurring issue. Tobias Harris added 23 points, yet the Pistons struggled to find consistent secondary scoring, and Jalen Duren had a muted impact with just eight points.

Earlier in the series, Detroit showed its ceiling in Game 2, a 98–83 win fueled by defense and a dominant 30–3 third-quarter run. Cunningham controlled the game with 27 points and 11 assists, while Harris contributed a double-double as the Pistons held Orlando to just 32.5% shooting.

Game 1, however, set the tone for Orlando’s resilience, with Banchero leading a balanced attack in a Magic victory that established this as a competitive matchup rather than a typical 1-vs-8 series.

Through three games, the series has hinged on execution swings: Detroit’s defense and transition offense versus Orlando’s shot-making and composure late. If Cunningham can limit turnovers and get more support, the Pistons remain dangerous — but with Banchero emerging as the best all-around player in the series, Orlando currently holds the upper hand.
