A top Democratic donor in Michigan was recently charged with multiple felonies after it was revealed that she allegedly misused economic development funds for personal gain.
Fay Beydoun was charged with conducting a criminal enterprise, forgery, larceny, and numerous other felonies in a groundbreaking scandal that will send shockwaves across the Michigan Democratic Party and the state.
Beydoun has donated to multiple top Democrats in Michigan, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Senator Elissa Slotkin, and current US Senate candidate Haley Stevens.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel released a statement shortly after the charges were filed, alleging that Beydoun lied about how she spent the $20 million grant.
“Today, we allege Fay Beydoun sought and received a $20 million ‘Michigan enhancement grant’ from the state Legislature, operated a criminal enterprise to use those funds for personal expenses and her own enrichment, and lied repeatedly when reporting how she used those funds,” Nessel said of the charges.
Beydoun’s connections to prominent Democrats in the state run deeper than just writing checks, as it was revealed that Beydoun has hosted fundraisers for Governor Whitmer at her residence.
A law firm representing Beydoun issued the following statement in her defense:
“For the last six months, our firm has attempted to demonstrate the illogical nature of the allegations against Ms. Beydoun to the Michigan Department of Attorney General. Despite those efforts, it is evident that certain parties felt the need to further this very public spectacle in a way that is neither supported by the evidence that we have seen nor the investigative materials we possess. As always, we will save our best arguments for the courtroom and pursue every avenue available for our client.”
Beydoun was released this week on a $50,000 bond and will have a pre-exam conference on May 20th.
