McCann picks up MI-10

Sean McCann wins Michigan’s 4th Congressional District

State Senator Sean McCann has flipped Michigan’s 4th Congressional District, according to a projection by the Associated Press on Wednesday afternoon. His victory will bring an end to Bill Huizenga’s eight-term reign in Congress

Sean McCann, an out-going Michigan State Senator, was considered the strongest challenger Huizenga has had in his entire career. He defeated then-State Senator Margaret O’Brien in a contentious race. In the State Senate, Senator McCann chairs the Energy and Environment Committee.

McCann’s victory has bolstered Democrats’ chances of taking the United States House of Representatives. It seemed likely going into the night, and this pickup will go a long way to that end.

Despite Huizenga’s tenure and name ID, McCann came into election night as the betting favorite. On Kalshi, McCann was favored 60% to Huizenga’s 40%. The polling average from this race had Huizenga as the 2.2-point favorite.

This seat will very much be in play in 2028 as McCann benefited greatly from the national environment, though it is not immediately clear if Huizenga will run in an attempt to reclaim the seat.
